Center of Family Health Cristo Vive, Recoleta Free, high quality primary health care to 20,500 people from the northern part of Santiago. Attention from specialists in ophthalmology, gynecology, cardiology, dentistry, and psychology. The center focuses on the prevention and promotion of health, establishing links with the community and the families of patients. It integrates the network of public services in partnership with the Service of Health Metropolitan North. Establishment: May 1974, as the small clinic “Community of Jesus;” present-day installations were created in March of 1996. . Personnel: 110 hired professionals and 30 volunteers. Physical Resources: 1,900 m2 of constructed facilities. Investment: 700,000,000 CP ($1.4 million US) provided by the European Community from Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Chilean institutions such as the Fundación San José de la Dehesa. Financing: Ministry of Health and supporting contributions. Needs: Financing to make up for the enormous deficit that does not cover the per-capita contribution of the Ministry of Health. Center of Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation, Talita Kum Assists with the rehabilitation of youth with problems of drug addiction so as to successfully move them away from the world of drugs, acquire a level of self-sufficiency, reach levels of personal and social responsibility, and achieve an adequate familiar and social integration. Beneficiaries: 65 youth from the ages of 18 to 34 from the health network of the northern metropolitan zone who count on the support of family members or at the least a tutor. Personnel: 13 hired professionals of seven different nationalities and 18 volunteers. Financing: CONACE, Ministry of Health, “Chiles Kinder,” the government of Luxembourg, and foreign and Chilean donations. Needs: Economic support and volunteer work. Director: Sara Rivera. Small Family Clinic Villa Mercedes, Renca Provides free health care to 4,000 residents of the poor areas of Villa Mercedes and neighboring areas in general medicine, gynecology, psychology, nursing, social assistance, home visits, and pharmacy. Personnel: 6 part-time employed professionals and volunteers. Financing: Supporting donations and volunteered contributions of patients. Needs: Monetary donations, medications and medical materials, since this health center does not recieve government financing. Also, volunteer professionals and health technicians.
